GCILS Member Professor Jörg Philipp Terhechte gave a talk on his new research project Beyond Unity at the University of Oxford next week, on Tuesday 10 March.
The event was hosted by the Oxford Institute for European and Comparative Law and the Oxford EU Law Discussion Group. The research project focused on the meaning of the concept of “unity” in the context of EU law. Professor Terhechte is currently a visiting fellow at the University of Oxford.
The presentation ‘Beyond unity?’ aimed to interrogate the concept of ‘unity’ and to clarify its role within the European political and legal discourse. As a ‘Union’, the EU is evidently built on ‘unity’ and shall ensure ‘unity’. The raison d’être has been and still is to become ‘an ever closer union’. Yet, what does the concept of ‘unity’ in the context of the EU means today?
