During these unprecedented times, our regular International Law Working Group, run and attended by PhD students, has transformed into an Online Support Group.
Instead of our usual structured talk or presentations, the support group is a chance for students to meet to sustain and encourage each other through this uncertain and anxious time, stay informed, share ideas, to get or to give advice on productivity, and most importantly, to ward off loneliness. With some having returned home to self-isolate with their families, some to Korea, some to Germany, while others remain in Glasgow, many living alone, we feel that this is a particularly important occasion to connect with one another and to make sure that we have people to talk to every week.
The group is a lovely reflection of the strong bond that our PhD students enjoy and which, thanks to the group itself and to the wonders of technology, can still be maintained and even further strengthened in spite of physical distance. The support group is held weekly and is attended by PhD students across the law school. All Glasgow PhD students and anyone interested are very welcome to join.
In addition to this weekly support group, we will also be running informal discussion sessions with the support and involvement of our academic staff, as an opportunity to engage together in lively conversation on all things international law! More details of these events will follow in the coming weeks and, again, all are welcome.
For more information or to sign up to our next Zoom session, please contact Héloïse Guichardaz and Charles Mak , who have volunteered to take over the running of the group from previous organisers, Hoon Cho, who is entering his final year of study, and Joanna Wilson, who will soon begin maternity leave.
