Based within the University of Glasgow’s School of Law, the Glasgow Centre for International Law and Security (GCILS) is a centre of excellence for research and training in the field of international law and security.

GCILS is home to a cosmopolitan community of research staff and research students, making it one of most significant hubs for international legal research in the United Kingdom.

The breadth of expertise and interest of our researchers is reflected in multiple specialist areas within the field of international law and security, broadly understood. Our researchers approach international law from diverse angles (e.g. practice-oriented, critical, doctrinal) to produce work of global significance.

This research provides the basis for academic programmes and executive training carried out at Glasgow and beyond, including three specialised postgraduate degree and a new Erasmus Mundus programme.

The excellence of our research also enables GCILS-based researchers to engage in a wide range of knowledge exchange activities, e.g. working with governments, NGOs, international organisations and businesses.
