What determines success in a climate case? Is it standing, finding a human rights violation, the remedies ordered, or what happens next? This presentation, looking at the European Court of Human Rights‘s 2024 climate judgments in context, considers the idea of success as contingent and fragile. Situating climate cases at the intersection of law and politics, it reflects on pushback against key rulings and the role of judicial power in the Anthropocene.

The event will be chaired by Lea Raible and the talk is open to students and staff alike.

Dr Corina Heri

Assistant Professor of Constitutional and Administrative Law

Corina Heri is assistant professor of constitutional and administrative law at Tilburg University. Her research focuses on human rights law, the role of courts, climate litigation and the interface between rights and vulnerability. She is the author of Responsive Human Rights, which was published by Hart Publishing in 2021, and journal articles in i.e.European Journal of International Law, Human Rights Law Review, the ECHR Law Reviewand International & Comparative Law Quarterly.
