We would like to invite you to join us virtually, via Zoom, on 4 November at 3.00pm UK time, for a talk by Professor Jörg Philipp Terhechte, titled “The Mandate of the Courts in Climate Protection – The Example of German Climate Change Law and the Federal Constitutional Court” .

In March 2021 the German Constitutional Court delivered a spectacular judgement on the Federal Climate Act and the obligation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions more effectively. The public debate of the judgement focused not only on its legal aspects but more generally on the role of the Constitutional Court between law and politics. Is it the (new) task of courts to protect the climate? The talk will deal with this complex question in detail.

Professor Jörg Philipp Terhechte is Professor in European and International Economic Law at the University of Glasgow and Vice President of Leuphana University, Lüneburg.
