We’re delighted to invite you to the first event in the new year 2021 – the next event of our International Law as a Profession Series, which will take place virtually, via Zoom, on 13 January 2021 at 4pm GMT.

The International Law as a Profession series offers the opportunity for students to hear a practitioner’s insight into the field of international law and into life beyond the University.

The series invites international lawyers from a variety of backgrounds and specialisms to share their experiences and offer advice, and aims, as a result, to give students the information they need to make important decisions about the next steps in their own careers.

This time, we will welcome Gillian Forsyth, a senior associate in international arbitration and public international law at Eversheds Sutherland in Paris. She advises private international companies as well as States and State-entities on a broad range of international disputes. Her recent experience includes appearing as counsel before the Iran-US Claims Tribunal. She is also currently engaged in several multi-billion dollar commercial arbitrations administered by the Permanent Court of Arbitration and the ICC concerning oil and gas and telecoms.

Gillian studied law at the University of Stirling before completing the GDL and LPC in Manchester to become an English solicitor. There, she completed a training contract with Eversheds Sutherland before qualifying into the Paris team in 2015. She was recently promoted to Senior Associate in 2020. She is a current member of the ICC Young Arbitrators Forum, the European Society of International Law and the British Institute of International and Comparative Law.
