A discussion with Emma Hutchison

Speaker bio:
Emma Hutchison is a senior lawyer at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office. She advises on a variety of public international law issues, from the privileges and immunities of foreign diplomats and premises to international criminal justice. She regularly represents the UK at the informal meetings of the Core Group on accountability for the crime of aggression against Ukraine and attends the annual ICC Assembly of States Parties.
Emma studied law at the University of Glasgow before completing an LL.M in International Law and the Diploma in Professional Legal Practice to become a Scottish solicitor. She worked at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, a non-profit organisation dealing with Syrian crimes and the EU Delegation to the UN in New York before completing her training contract with TLT LLP. On qualification, she moved to the Government Legal Department in London where she spent three years as a lawyer advising the Ministry of Defence and the-then Department for International Trade. She moved to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office in January 2022.
